I went to Bix for a date on a weekday. The vibes were romantic, dark, and calming, with great music and an overall inviting atmosphere. The food was amazing and flavorful, with portions that were very fair. All the dishes we ordered complemented each other well, especially the bone marrow and oysters, which were standout choices. The only downside was the wait time; despite having reservations, we had to wait 30-45 minutes to be seated. However, the service was great and engaged, making it an absolutely relaxing spot for a date night.

Stopped by for a friends wedding celebration. We were all running late but some of us arrived before the whole party so we chose to wait at the bar before being seated. We ordered a round of drinks & shortly after, the rest of the party arrived so we went upstairs. Our server Michael was very attentive, thank you for your patience as we were a big group & were all in celebratory mode. The complimentary bread & butter was the perfect starter. The bread was crispy, warm & soft on the inside. Everything we all had was perfect, flavorful & filling. All fresh & good quality. The ambiance is very dim, intimate & they had a live band that really added to the vibe. (Minus one star because the bartender that helped us downstairs seemed a bit annoyed by the group & the fact that we wanted to pay for our drinks separately, I didn't realize it was that big of a deal, we all ordered individually)

My 8:30 dinner at Bix last night was a lesson in what's possible for a restaurant. I understand that restaurants are businesses but your dollar seems to go further at Bix. My friend arrived before me and enjoyed a cocktail at the bar. She was pleasantly surprised with the quality of her $18 drink. When I arrived we were immediately seated in an upstairs booth. I ordered a nonalcoholic cocktail based on her recommendation. My drink was $14 and I enjoyed it. It was a unique mocktail mostly because it was complex and not sweet. The restaurant is hidden in an alley. You almost have to be looking for it or you might never know it exists. Inside I felt transported back in time. The decor was dark. The staff was classically dressed. The tables all had white table cloths. There was an excellent three piece band playing jazz standards. The music added so much life to the meal. I would go back for the band alone. I was already impressed and hadn't tasted a thing on the menu. I wasn't disappointed. We shared a steak that was off-menu with a variety of appetizers and sides. Everything was served at the correct temperature and was fresh. I had never had olives served warm before and I thoroughly enjoyed them. I know I haven't talked about the food a lot but I assure you that I enjoyed every bite. Bix made me realize that it's still possible to have nice decor, professional staffing, excellent food and a live band at a reasonable price. By the way, real Estate isn't cheap in San Francisco and neither is labor. The restaurant competition is fierce. The existence of Bix and their longstanding success only makes me think that most restaurants are either poorly managed or have extremely greedy owners. Go to Bix. Enjoy it and take it all in. You won't regret your decision.
